SOUTHERN SHINES FOR BRONZE TEAMS

The Long Island ladies team narrowly defeated Royal Melbourne on Monday to take the title of Best Combined Stableford for 2010.

With one point separating winner and runner-up, Long Island with a score of 98 points managed to prevail over Royal Melbourne (97) to take this year's title for Bronze Team Winner.

Played on the sensational course that is the Southern Golf Club, the 50 team field began a fun-filled day of laughs, tears, triumphs and challenges in the name of golf. With the competitors divided into morning and afternoon fields, fantastic golf could be seen throughout the day.

Early on it was evident that a battle was on hand with many of the competitors' scores in close range to one another. With the morning ladies finished and mingling over lunch, the morning results were tallied. Elizabeth Poort from Long Island stood out from the rest and took the morning field title for Best Stableford Score of 38 points (H'cap 22).

Whilst some ladies in the afternoon found the course a slight challenge, requiring the use of their sand wedge on more than one occasion, only smiles could be seen from all those that participated. The afternoon field finished up in the evening, and while the ladies discussed their triumphs and tribulations from the day the scores were counted.

With a score of 98 Long Island were claimed the winners of the day thanks to some high-quality golf being played by team members Elizabeth Poort, Helen Treacy and Cheryle Jenkins. Runners-up were Royal Melbourne with a score of 97, by Bonnie Robson, Chrisse Hood and Jenny Clegl.

Best Stableford Score for the afternoon field was taken by Tina O'Brien of Box Hill, with Handicap of 35 and score of 40 points.

Congratulations to all winners on the day and a big thank you to all the players who participated in the tournament and made the day such an enjoyable one for all involved.

Special thanks to Southern Golf Club's Ladies President Judith Giraud and Ladies Captain Irene Wyld for all their help on the day and prior to. Recognition must also be given out to committee members Lee Wills, Dawn Nagel and Nicki Charman for their tireless effort on day.
